Like many of you, we here at Pennsylvania Partnerships for Children enjoy taking time during the holiday season to reflect back on the past year and look ahead to the new one. Whether we are assessing our victories in 2012 or examining the challenges for 2013, we cannot overlook how valuable your support is to the work we do every day.
PPC marked its 20th anniversary this year, and we have achieved some notable victories for the commonwealth's children in the past two decades. It's an exhaustive list that includes improved health care resources for kids, greater early learning opportunities, more help for low-income working families and so much more. (You can find more details in our latest "Partnerships" newsletter.)
Even this year – amidst the most challenging economic conditions seen in generations – PPC scored some big wins for the commonwealth's kids. We helped win funding for several key initiatives, including $100 million for the Accountability Block Grant program that helps provide full-day kindergarten, $82.8 million for Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts and $37.3 million for Head Start Supplemental Assistance.
We were able to fully implement the federal Fostering Connections law, which will provide much-needed supports to older foster youth. And we helped usher in new, more meaningful teacher evaluations that will improve teacher effectiveness, while also preserving the Keystone Exams that will ensure our graduates can compete and succeed beyond high school.
That's an impressive list of achievements in just about any year, but especially in a year when it first appeared that little ground could be gained for Pennsylvania's children.
How did we do it? With the generous support of people like you. And we still need your help to do even more for Pennsylvania's children in 2013.
Before 2012 draws to a close, we ask that you please help PPC continue to be a leading voice for kids by making a tax-deductible donation.
We've shown you we know how to get results – and we need your help to build on our wins for kids. Your contribution today will help ensure Pennsylvania's children have a strong voice in Harrisburg and Washington in 2013. Remember, we can't make a difference without the help of supporters like you.
Making a contribution is easy. You can learn more about ways to give to PPC by visiting our website.
